Well at least it doesn’t have any metro looking vampire classes… right… what?! they do? sigh…
Anyways, I tried out Forsaken World, a free to play mmo (same people who did perfect world), and as much as I could go on about the whole “wowclone this and that”, it’s um… it’s… not a bad game! Shocking isn’t it! The classes come in your generic flavors “rogue, mage, priest, tank, warrioresque, vampire…”, ok, the last one is kinda weird and the classes are kind of a mashup of what you’d be used to in wowland. But it’s actually not bad. Graphics are ok, quests are your copy pasta mmo thing that you’ll probably not read and just find what kind of boar to kill, and the classes seem solid enough. Oh, and you can auto run to the next quest objective! So ya know, get some chips, watch the game, and come back when your guy finishes his jog.
My only real complaint is with the way the characters look. I mean, you’ve got your classic dwarf, though female dwarves are, well, ok they look like something out of an anime… which is a weird juxtaposition… But the others… Specifically the elf kind that have a rigamortis-like position of THIS, and the “undead”, I forget what they were called, but the shiny vampire peoples. And no matter what you do to change the appearances of your characters, save for male dwarves, they all end up looking like Jem and David Bowies’ love child. Truly outrageous!
Again, it’s F2P, so I wouldn’t ever tag this as being the next wow killer. But if you have some hours to spare, then it’s a pretty decent time killer without being overly obnoxious like so many before it. If you can stomach the character designs, then it’s well worth trying out.
Oh, and hey… this week’s poll is kind of off topic, but I’ve had some little sketch ideas for some weird off topic, slice of life, political, etc one paneler type comics and was trying to figure out what should become of those. Can’t seem to think up a good place for them. So lets see what y’all think! I figure if I put them on another site like jesterbrand and I can’t update it regularly, it’ll have, what, 3 viewers? But if I put them here, maybe a few people will take a gander. IDK just yet…
I don’t see why not here. If they are so small you could obviously put them in like the minis. If people care, they’ll keep an eye out, else they’ll just check in when they want for which ever. It’s not like posting them here will diminish the value of the wow related stuff (hey, you got wow in my rl! No, you got rl in mywow! Jerk.)
Anyway it simplifies my life because that would mean one less bookmark to track of if you did more stuff.
heh, yeah, it would be easier to have it all in one place.
just a note here though, I’m currently working on a super secret side project that’s taking up my free time… so I don’t know about when or if this will happen… just thought I’d get some feedback before starting anything.
Political? Uh oh…
In my experience, the minute you politicize a site, whether it favors the left or the right, you will end up alienating SOMEONE….and I mean “someone” as in a lot of people. Politics divides people worse then race and religion. That’s just my view/experience on it- take it for what it’s worth.
I’m a very political person myself, but I know better then to bring an ounce of it into S&K. I finally got a decent-size reader base now….I wouldn’t want to jeopardize it just to express an off-topic opinion on the going-ons in the country.
yeah, and that’s my other problem with this idea. I try to be somewhat objective when it comes to politics in the minis, but this would be more or less straight forward. which is why I wonder if this is the right venue.
Just be careful with it. Once you graze one of the touchy subjects, like healthcare, illegal immigration, war in Iraq, union bargaining, abortion, ect. Even in a balanced, lighthearted & comedic light, someone will shout, someone will shout back, then it’s all down hill from there. I will bet money on it.
It’s your site, and no doubt any comic you make and post here will sport your same high quality art and sense of humor you always have displayed, but remember, many of your readers visit just to see the lovable adventures of Coffin & crew. Don’t spoil it!
Oh, yeah, it’s also the fastest way to cause a flame war in your comments section. You’d be amazed how fast a site will go up in flames from one one visitor spouting off in response to a political comic.
CC probably, but I’d put it in a subpage (like you do with Home, About etc) with a mini on the main CC page (just like What’s Shaking) when it’s up. Curious to see what they’ll be :)
hmm, that’d make more sense I think. Like I said above, this may not be for a while since I’m gearing up for another convention in July, but it’s a definite maybe. lol! I just have a lot of little sketches and ideas that don’t seem to fit anywhere else.
Oh yea,, if you are looking for new MMO’s, you could come join the ranks of us who are eagerly awaiting Terra online. (http://www.tera-online.com/)
It won’t be a wow killer but it’s certainly shaping up to be one hell of an MMORPG.
One problem I have with free MMOs is that when you don’t pay a subscription, customer service is extremely dismal. As much as I dislike Blizz at times, I admit they have the best support of any gaming company. If you get hacked, you will get restored completely and fairly quickly. If you get hacked in a free MMO- you’re $#@%ed. Plus your toons and account are usually deleted after a few months of inactivity. When I logged in WoW for my cataclysm free trial after 14 months of inactivity, my toons were right there waiting for me.
Paying sucks, but subscription MMO’s really are more worthwhile in my opinion.
I haven’t had to do anything with customer service with the F2P, but what gets me is the whole cash shop thing. basically, instead of paying a subscription and working for gear, you buy leet gear at the shop with real money. I just really don’t like that format. Then again… like in one of my other minis, I don’t think I’d like to be attacked with advertising either. I mean, sure downing some Mt. Dew potions to regen mana isn’t so intrusive, but wearing Tommy Hilfiger Shoulders of Might kinda takes you out of the immersion…
But yeah, I agree, the subscription is well worth it.
And I’ll check out Terra! Thanks for the tip!
