Looks like Fox is doing it again! And the Simpsons are directly in the cross hairs!
So Fox is trying to renegotiate the salaries for the voice acting talent so that they take a 45% pay cut. This is because Fox claims the show isn’t making as much money as it once did and unless the actors take their cut, they won’t continue the series. Times are tough, I get it, but that’s quite a bit. Granted, many people might not have their heart strings tugged too much to know they get about $400k per episode, but still, as an artist, it’s good to see someone making a pretty penny off their craft.
But here’s where it gets interesting… Voice actor Harry Shearer (does lots of voices) fired back with a proposal to take even a 70% or more cut if the cast could get a small portion of future profits from the show. Of course Fox came back with a big NOOOOOOO… They basically said that no amount of salary cut could justify giving them a portion of profits. Cause, you know… it makes a LOT of money. Oodles!
I understand, really I do, they don’t want to share future profits because that could be a lot of money, but as someone who stands on the artist side of the wall, I also understand that a person should receive fair compensation for their craft.
(also, let me throw a shout out to my buds on the other side of the planet… sry to pick on China again, but I kinda like that character now, lol.)

Fox is trying to bury themselves underground…. They are the people who cancelled Futurama for god’s sake ! Not to mention their own propoganda filled programs….
That’s why I gave up watching Fox in the first place because they don’t care about the show or the audience. All they care about is buying a new boat or a golf course and s*ck the balls of the republicans…
well… they do have Family Guy and House which I like, but it’s just a matter of time before they mess that up too…
and oh look… a Napoleon Dynamite cartoon show is coming… I… don’t know what to make of that yet…
I see there is no “They should be paid up front, fox will cheat them out of back end money anyway”. After all it’s amazing how many shows don’t see any profits once there is a chance of any back end money going to the talent.
ha! that’s probably more accurate!
and it’s amazing how those show producers keep buying new fancy cars with all that money those shows don’t seem to be making… hmm… I think something fishy might be going on here! XD
Pfft, let them cancel The Simpsons, see how well that goes for them. The show will just be picked up by Comedy Central, just like Futurama. And Fox will lose that big pile of money completely.
ha! yeah, Fox made a bad move with Futurama! which, btw, is the better of two shows… to me anyways.
Here in latinamerica the Simsons got their voice-overs all changed at the first episode of the 15th ( nor 16th, or 17th, i dont know) season, and i dont mean just the main characters, i mean THE ENTIRE CAST!!!!! ( i think only Kent Brockman survived the purges).
though, in my opinion, the english voice-over for Marge has THE SINGLE MOST DISGUSTING VOICE EVER ( or , at least, the single most disgusting voice that ever made it to become a voice-over) PERIOD. If they want to change it i say let them, and God bless.
An off-topic subject that i wanted to discuss is that you update so frequently, that when i get to see some of your post i cant post a comment because i know ill get no reply to them because you made a new post and stop replying the comments from previous comic posts ( which is probably the main reason i like so much this forums).
Finally: Asking for 1% or more of the profits= dao! XD
oh man, that’s cold to fire the whole cast! yeah, her’s is a little grating to say the least, but it’s been so ingrained in her character, I couldn’t even imagine it being different.
also… one of the worst voices of all time is the Japanese version of Goku from Dragon Ball Z… I just… I can’t take him seriously! it’s just too high pitch! ack!
hmm… well, I “attempt” to reply to ALL comments! even ones made on old comics! the way I know there’s a new one is that wordpress emails me to let me know and it pops up in its own folder… that said… I’ve noticed that some comments have been lost in the shuffle. for whatever reason, it seems that sometimes wordpress won’t email me, thus, I don’t see them and unless I’m just surfing through some old stuff, I might not catch it if it’s more than a week back. >(
but if this happens, gimme a poke in the “contact” form with the comic name if I haven’t replied to something in like a week.
Yeah, some of the original voice actors are pretty bad in anime - fortunately the exception and not the norm as opposed to - The wretched cackling witch who does the voice overs for a lot of titles for one particular distributor. She is in her 50s if not decades older and attempts, pitifully, to sound like a pubescent teenage girl. Ears bleed when she screeches from the screen.
Well, considering they get 8 mil a year each, they dont need much of a bonus anyway
lol, nice name!
um, yeah, that’s true. when you see big numbers like that, your heart doesn’t break tooooo much. so I’m kind of torn when I look at it like that. cause one part thinks that’s plenty of moolah, but the other wants to see someone’s talent get some reward.
I think the problem isn’t the “they’re cutting down their huge salaries to less huge but still huge salaries” part, but the “we want to cut your salaries so that we can rake in even more cash from the show that makes a MASSIVE amount of money and don’t want to share any of that with the talent”.
idk… it just seems like a shady move. but one I can understand from the business side of it.
Yeah, its the guys in the offices who want to cut everybody else’s money and rake more in for themselves - they see those guys in the RIAA doing so well with their model that they want to copy them.
man, I’m totally in the wrong business…
if I could only be some sort of webcomic middleman that does nothing but count all my riches… hmmm… >)
